スワニー（Swanee）の背景 |
「Swanee」の内容は、 アメリカ南部での綿花畑（プランテーション）から逃れ、 北部の自由州で生き延びる黒人達が、 昔の子供の頃を懐かしく哀しく思い出す...という切ない情景です。
「故郷」が指す場所については、個人差があります。 アメリカで生まれた黒人達にとってはアメリカの綿花畑が「故郷」になり、 アフリカ大陸から連れて来られたばかりの黒人達にとっては、 生まれ育ったアフリカ大陸の地元の村が「故郷」ということになるのでしょうか。
ディキシー（Dixie）は、アメリカ合衆国南部諸州の通称で、 ディキシーランド（Dixieland）とも呼ばれます。 スワニー河は、ジョージア州南部からフロリダ州北部を流れる河川で、 スペルは、Swanee、Suwannee、Suwanee。
